John 14:25-26

You Have A Teacher

Pneumatology.  This is the study of the Holy Spirit.  As we preach through the last supper Jesus has with his disciples on the night before he dies, these chapters in the gospel of John (13-17) give us a foundation of who the Holy Spirit is and what he does in our lives.

Helper.  This was the first name given to the Holy Spirit by Jesus in John 14:16.

Spirit of Truth.  This is the second name Jesus gives to the Holy Spirit in John 14:17.  This is what this sermon is all about.

John 14

25 These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you.

26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.

Inspiration. The Holy Spirit moved or carried along men to write the Scirpture.  (2 Peter 1:16-21).  The Bible is the textbook our teach had written for us.

Illumination. The Holy Spirit is the only one who can take natural people and give them a spiritual understanding (1 Corinthians 2:12-16).  Not only is he the teacher in the front of the classroom, but the one inside of us who allows us to understand.

Ephesians 5

18 And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit

Under The Influence.  Instead of being under the influence of alcohol, which is a sin, we need to be under the influence of the Holy Spirit.  This sermon seeks to answer the question: What does it mean to “be filled with the Spirit?”
